Benefits of primary care

A primary care provider can be a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Often, they all work together to provide care at the same location, depending on the reason for your visit.
Patients who maintain a relationship with a primary care provider benefit from:
Promotion of wellness & Lower overall costs: While the goal of a hospital or specialist is to diagnose and treat medical conditions, a #primary care provider focuses on keeping the patient in good health, with tools including screenings, immunizations and advice on nutrition and exercise. Most insurance companies charge a lower out-of-pocket fee for visits to primary care physicians than for trips to the ER. Also, because primary care providers know which tests a patient has had recently; expensive duplication of tests can be avoided
Better management of chronic diseases & early treatment of health concerns: An ongoing relationship with one health care provider, with regularly scheduled tests such as MRIs, often results in fewer complications due to conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.  A medical professional who sees a patient at least once a year may notice signs of a problem, such as skin cancer or heart disease, before it advances to a more serious stage.

Familiarity with patient history & Coordination of care: A primary care provider already knows, for example, that a patient is allergic to penicillin, even if the patient forgets to mention it during an exam. A provider with an ongoing patient relationship may also know when loss of a job impacts the ability to pay for a name-brand medication or when a patient is missing sleep due to a child’s ongoing illness. The health care system can be confusing, with one patient seeing multiple providers while trying to follow insurer rules for reimbursement. A primary care provider helps to develop a plan so that all of a patient’s concerns are addressed without duplicating care.

Primary Care Paediatrics session @ #PrimaryHealthcare17

Primary Care Pediatrics is a discipline in medicine that deals comprehensively with the #health and well-being of infants, children and adolescents within the context of their families, communities and cultures. #PrimaryCarepediatrics sees infants, children and adolescents as its main subject of care, respecting their autonomy and involving parents, guardians and / or custodians as integral part of the “unit of care”. #Pediatrics deals with the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents, and the age limit usually ranges from birth up to 18 years of age. A medical specialist who practices in this area is known as a pediatrician who is specialized in Child Healthcare. The word pediatrics mean healer of children derived from two Greek words. #Pediatricians work both in #hospitals, particularly those working in its specialized subfields such as #neonatology, and as primary care physicians who specialize in children. In the case of acute or chronic illness, the PrimaryCare pediatrician uses all #healthresources at his disposal to ensure that his patient receives the optimal and most appropriate care for a particular problem in the context of his life circumstances. Primary Care pediatrician will guide his patient through the complexities of the national health system, always keeping in mind that infants, children and adolescents must be protected from unnecessary screening, testing and #medicaltreatment.

The following main themes of the conference will be discussed during presentations of the three day event

·         Pre & Perinatal Primary Care
·         Neonatology for Primary Care
·         Pediatric Mental Health Care
·         Diagnosis of #HealthStatus
·         Advocacy for vulnerable, high-risk adult populations
·         Health Promotion and Protection
·         Patient-centred, #evidence-basedpractice

Dental Primary Care session @ #PrimaryHealthcare17

#Dentistry is neither an allied health profession nor a paramedical profession. It is the only anatomically focused #healthcare profession that is university-based and for which #primarycare responsibility is maintained by the profession. Dentistry is essentially a primary care discipline insofar as the vast majority of patient care takes place in community settings, is restricted to simple procedures and is provided by 'generalists' who in the main hold, or aspire to hold, a long-term relationship with their patients. In dentistry most care is provided by generalists and patients are rarely referred to specialists, though referral rates are reported to have risen greatly in recent years and are likely to continue to do so. The dental profession is responsible for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and disorders of the #oralcavity and related structures. But, the overarching question is what role dental professionals will fill about the general health and well-being of patients under their care. As the population ages and chronic illnesses affect a large percentage of those seeking and requiring dental services, will the dental profession be prepared to comprehensively treat these kinds of patients. Dental care is the Oral hygiene, the practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean in order to dental disorders. #Familyphysicians commonly encounter patients with dental infections, such as #dentalcaries and #periodontal disease. Dental caries is caused by bacteria that destroy the enamel and dentin; it can be detected by an oral examination that shows stained pits or fissures on the tooth surface. Use of fluoride is the most effective prevention measure for #dentalplaque.
